Betcover is an interesting band that has been really getting traction the past couple years. They have been described as “Art rock, Alt rock and Jazz rock” which seems to be the most fitting out of those labels. Japan heavily known for their very niche hardcore scene always throws something different in genre, and Betcover came blazing onto the scene. With five albums being released in the past 5 years its only to expect they get better each year. Today we can take a look at Jikan released in 2021, which opens the album with YureiA seemingly slower track with beautiful instrumental and lyrical story. At around 1:25 while repeating a lyric about ghosts, this avant garde type vocal is introduced that changes the way you view the track. The rest of the album can seem to follow this pattern, of uniquely crafted intricate riffs, goods storytelling, and flowing emotion. The song Piano stands out as the best song to me on the album. As much as I love the feel and tempo of this album at times it can get tiring. Not every song is life changing, and In terms of an album a large majority of the songs wouldn’t really fit together on a playlist alone. This project like most Betcover projects are meant to be listening too as a whole to convey a story. I do think this album makes an 8.4 maybe an 8. Good album good concepts, and influential to me. If you have a spare 45 minutes and are in a chill mood I think this album works well.
