Panic At the Disco’s Debut Album Highly Original

Panic! At the Disco’s classic debut, A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out is one of the most
original pieces of music I have heard in my life. This album is a whirlwind of infectious energy,
catchy lyrics, angst, and theatricality. From the start of this album to the finish there is a very set
theme and it feels dark yet unserious. This band did something nobody had even begun to think
of yet, blending this baroque vibe with emo, pop-punk, vaudevillian, and circus feelings. This is
very well reflected in their first tour, the Nothing Rhymes With Circus tour. This album goes above and beyond with the
storytelling aspect, the catchy melodies, and each dramatic twist and turn.
Frontman Brendon Urie displays his incredibly dynamic vocal range when his voice soars
over the instrumentation. Tracks like Lying is the Most Fun a Girl Can Have Without Taking
Her Clothes Off and Build God, Then We’ll Talk really show how versatile his vocals are.
Each song has a GREAT hook that makes you want to listen more. Each instrument does a great
job of playing their individual parts (I really love the keyboard). The clashing of rock and
theatrical elements is usually something I would consider a bad mix, but I love this example.
This album really set the stage for its time period, immediately sending the band into
superstardom after being signed on to Pete Wentz, of Fall Out Boy’s label. It’s truly a
phenomenon that drew in a massive amount of praise. This album is and always will remain a
pillar in pop punk, a true classic. 9/10.
