Kanye West’s album titled YEEZUS was released on June 18, 2013. It was produced by the company Def Jam Recordings. It has 10 songs with a total running time of 40 minutes. It has a main element of Hip Hop and Rap but has underlying tones of 80’s Acid House, Chicago Drill Music and 90’s Industrial styles. This is West’s sixth studio album and takes inspiration from some of his earlier works. This album features other artists of all styles such as Cheif Keef, Frank Ocean and Daft Punk.
YEEZUS starts off with an electronic beat and a buzzsaw synth in the opening song On Sight, and this is just a tease of what you are in for listening to this album. By the third track I Am a God, you can really tell the amount of effort that was put into this album just based on the electronic trap beat with West’s vocals over it. The fourth track New Slaves, gives the album a deeper meaning by talking about early segregation from his mothers time. Track seven Blood On the Leaves, gives the album a new feel with high pitched background vocals and an electronic melody with a loud bass. The final track Bound 2, once again completely resets the style and features a calm melody with high pitched background vocals. This track tells us about West’s trouble with finding love and being Bound 2 falling in love.
Overall West’s YEEZUS features many different styles and takes inspiration from past albums and gives inspiration for future albums. This album personally gets an eight out of ten due the stories it tells and the upbeat rhythms.
