In Lansing Michigan on I-96, a semi-truck crash killed 4 people and injured 17. late Saturday night, Nov. 2nd, in Ingham County. The crash happened around 11:42 p.m. near M-52 in the Webberville area. According to Michigan State Police, westbound I-96 near M-52 had been shut down in that area for a DTE Energy crew to string power lines across the expressway. When police reopened the highway, there were still numerous vehicles stopped on the expressway when a semi-truck with a trailer plowed into the stopped vehicles. Police believe around 15 vehicles were involved in the crash.
According to a Michigan State Police investigation, it appears the driver did not see the backup and could not stop his vehicle in time. The impact of the crash caused the semi-truck and numerous other vehicles involved to catch fire.
According to Michigan State Police, a 29-year-old male from Carson City who was driving a Ford F-150 pickup was killed in the crash. A 20-year-old female, a 43-year-old female, and a 47-year-old male, all from Lansing, were also killed in the crash. 17 others were taken to the University of Michigan Health-Sparrow or McLaren Hospitals in Lansing for serious injuries.
