Woman of the Hour is a drama/thriller about the true story of Sheryl Bradshaw and Rodney Alcala. Bradshaw was a bachelorette trying to make it in the acting field. So she tried out for the hit ’70s TV matchmaking show The Dating Game. She had to choose between 3 bachelors and chose bachelor No. 3, Rodney Alcala. But he was a serial killer.
Rodney Alcala was already killing people nationwide. Sheryl Bradshaw is an aspiring actress trying to find gigs to act at. Her agent suggests that and audition for The Dating Game. She later then gets up on the show and Alcala is contestant number three. As the show progresses Bradshaw goes off-script because she feels that the questions were written as being sexist and insulting. Rodney somehow makes a better impression of the other bachelors and ends up winning the date. Rodney and Sheryl went and got drinks after the show, Alcala tried to be interested in what Bradshaw was interested in. But all he wanted to do was to kill Sheryl Bradshaw. She escaped Rodney, but after that interaction, he still was killing women. Later in 1979, he was arrested. Not long after the Dating Game appearance Sheryl left California to raise a family somewhere else.
The director of this film was Anna Kendrick her debut directing/acting movie. This movie is written by Ian Mcdonald. I thought that this movie was pretty good it is definitely a thriller and bounces around a lot. I wish it had more about Alcala, to be honest. I also really liked the whole ‘70s feel to the movie really brought the whole movie all together. Overall I would rate this movie a 7.1 out of 10, I would recommend this movie to people who like the drama and a thriller at the same time.
