The Detroit Lions won big against the Jacksonville Jaguars this past Sunday. With the Lions leading into another blowout win, 52-6 was the final score. The Lions’ new Defensive End Za’Darius Smith added a lot of juice to this Lion’s defense. Smith’s first game playing for the Lions led the Lions with four QB pressures, including two quick pressures, and combined with Jack Campbell for Detroit’s only sack of the game.
Head coach Dan Campbell said this after the game, “I thought he did some things for us, I thought he did some good things for us, It was good to have him out there. I thought, really like we talked about last week, just be a piece of this puzzle and he’s a guy that’s played, he is instinctive, he doesn’t stay blocked long, he’s really good with his hands. Like I said, he can set an edge in the run game and he’s really good at working gains with (Lions DL Alim McNeill) Mac and (Lions DL D.J.) Reader and those guys. He’s got a knack for those things. So, I think, first outing with him, I thought it was good. I think he fits right in with us.”
Smith wasn’t the only one who had a great game this past Sunday. Goff finished 24-of-29 passing for 412 yards with four touchdowns, no interceptions and a perfect 158.3 passer rating. Both running back found there way into the endzone, David Montgomery twice and Jahmr Gibbs one. Montgomery finished Sunday with 75 rushing yards on 15 carries (5.0 avg.) with two touchdowns. He also caught three passes for 20 yards. Gibbs rushed 11 times for 69 yards (6.3) with a touchdown. He also had a 54-yard reception. Detroit finished the contest with 196 rushing yards, three touchdowns and a 4.6-yard average per carry.
