Hunter Biden was given a pardon for his crimes by his father, active President Joe Biden. This is completely going against his pledge earlier in the presidency, where he told the public that he would not interfere as he said believed in the justice system. With this latest act from the president, he completely disregarded his earlier pledge, stating that the case was false because of politics being involved.
In the President’s pardon, he covered his son’s active case, completely absolving him of all charges, along with any other crimes between January 1, 2014, and December 1, 2024. This means that if Hunter Biden was found doing anything else illegal in this time frame, he would also absolved of these crimes. Earlier in Hunter Biden’s case, Joe Biden also stated, “I abide by the jury decision. I will do that and I will not pardon him.” completely ruling out pardon until now.
As of November 8th, even after Trump had won the election, Joe Biden was still against using his pardon, changing his mind very recently. His reasoning is that the charges only appeared after his election, showing that they may have been created as a political move from his rivals. This point was further used, as political rivals of Biden in the past have used pictures of Hunter Biden being drug-addled to try to convince others to impeach Biden earlier in his presidency.
