Nightcrawler is a film written and directed by Dan Gilroy in 2014. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal as Louis Bloom, a man who documents violent events at night in Los Angeles and sends them to a local news station. The movie starts off with Bloom attempting to steal wire fence to sell to a scrapyard, when a security guard confronts him. Bloom sees the guard is wearing an expensive watch, to which he beats the guard and steals his watch. On his way from the scrapyard Bloom witnesses a car fire where a film crew rushes to film it for the local news. Inspired by the stringers, Bloom steals a bike and pawns it for a camcorder and a police scanner. From then on, Bloom tracks down criminal activity, accidents, and other valuable news and sells it to KWLA 6, but later in the movie he picks up trouble from one of his jobs.
Overall, this movie is pretty good, it has good cinematography as well as investment to the movie. Rotten Tomatoes rated this movie 95% and thats about what I would rate it as well. Jake Gyllenhaal’s performance in this movie is really well done, and the way he portrays Bloom is almost perfect.
