An armed man was shot and killed after entering the secure perimeter at President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida early Sunday morning. The man was seen carrying a gun and a gas can when he made his way past the security gate and went inside the restricted area. He was shot by the U.S. Secret Service agents and a Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputy when he raised the shotgun toward the officers after being told to drop it. President Trump and the first lady were not at the resort at the time because they were in Washington D.C. and there were no protectors on the property.
Authorities identified the intruder as a 21-year-old man from North Carolina whose family had reported him missing before the incident. The Secret Service said he may have bought the shotgun while driving south to Florida and officers confronted him just inside the north gate, he set down the fuel can but then pointed the gun at them, which led to the shooting.
