Last week, Michigan had a bunch of tornadoes when strong storms moved through the state. Weather experts said there were about 8 or 9 tornadoes total. Most of them happened late at night on April 14 and early in the morning on April 15. Even though they were not the strongest tornadoes, they still caused damage in different areas.
The tornadoes mostly hit the Lower Peninsula, including places like Ann Arbor, Saginaw County, and areas near Frankenmuth. Some also touched down closer to Metro Detroit. These tornadoes were rated EF0 or EF1. That means they were on the weaker side, but they could still knock down trees, damage roofs, and break things outside.
In southeast Michigan, including parts of Wayne County and Washtenaw County, there were two EF1 tornadoes. These happened early in the morning, which made them a little more dangerous because people were sleeping. Luckily, there were no deaths reported, but there was still damage and power outages in some areas.
Other tornadoes were reported in places like Lansing, Durand, and Lincoln Park. One tornado even stayed on the ground for many miles and damaged barns, trees, and houses along the way. Even the weaker tornadoes still caused problems by breaking branches and damaging buildings.
Overall, this storm showed that Michigan’s tornado season is already very active this year. Even weaker tornadoes can still be dangerous and cause a lot of damage. That’s why it’s important for people to pay attention to weather warnings and be ready when storms come through.
