Almost everyone has heard about the new movie phenomenon, The Hunger Games. It is the first of three movies that are based on the books written by Suzanne Collins. The Hunger Games soundtrack, on the other hand, is not as well known as the books and movie. The soundtrack contains songs by many popular artists.
“Safe & Sound” by Taylor Swift featuring The Civil Wars is one among many great tracks on this album. Personally, I am not a fan of Taylor Swift’s music, but this song is one of my favorites. I believe that this song really showed Taylor Swift’s true talent. When I first heard it I was shocked because it did not sound like one of Taylor Swift’s usual songs. In this song, she sang more high notes than she has in any of her previous songs. Also, the music had more of an eerie sound to it compared to her normal upbeat songs.
“Come morning light,/You and I’ll be safe and sound.” These lyrics do not only pertain to the movie, but everyday life. They were meant to reference the scenes that are occurring throughout the game. The main characters, Katniss and Peeta, believe that if they can make it until the morning, they have survived the game. In a larger sense, I believe that the song provides the message that if you hope for better times and just try and tough it out then things will get better.
This soundtrack has a song for everyone. With artists like Taylor Swift, Kid Cudi, Miranda Lambert, The Civil Wars, and more, it’s hard not to find a song you enjoy. While the books and movies are getting all this hype, I believe that The Hunger Games soundtrack should be as well. Containing music for almost anyone listening, I believe that if you have not listened to it yet, it is definitely something worth looking into.
