There will be a science olympiad meeting for anyone interested on Wednesday 9-24 at 7:45 in Mr. Topping’s room. Please stop in if you are interested in participating. If we don’t have a large enough interest we will not be participating this year.

Voting has begun for the WLNS School Spirit Awards. Log on to
http://tinyurl.com/oewlns to vote for our two videos. The band has submitted a video in the Marching Band contest and the journalism staff has submitted a video in the Mascots contest. The winning entries will receive a $1,000 and other prizes. Help out our school and vote every day through September 30!

The M-ZONE will be a “white out” in Alma on Friday night. Please dress in all white and join the growing masses cheering on our Marauder team. See Brendan Sutliff with any questions.

The student challenge group will meet this Thursday at 7 A.M. in room C-14. The guest speaker will be Mr. Troy Bancroft, owner and CEO of Liquid Fertilizers Co. of St. Johns. There will also be a free breakfast of french toast and sausage. This is open to all O-E students and staff.

Attention senior girls playing powderpuff: your first practice will be Sunday, September 21 from 2-3:30 P.M. on the practice field.  You must have your parent permission and physical forms turned in before you can practice.

The kick off to homecoming week will be the powderpuff football game. It will be held on Sunday, September 28 at 6 P.M. The cost will be $5 per person. No passes will be accepted.

If you want to be a part of the snow sculpting team, applications are available from Mrs. Weber in the art room. Any high school student comfortable creating in three dimensions is welcome to apply. Applications are due by October 1.

Attention seniors! The senior homecoming nominations lists are posted outside Mrs. Anderson’s door – room C2. Please check these lists to confirm your name is on the list and it is correct. Senior court nominations will be held this Friday, September 19 during both lunches in the main lobby. See Mrs. Anderson or Mrs. Baese for details.

The September FFA meeting is today. Membership forms will be available. If you can’t make it, just come to Ms. Hoffman’s room for forms and info.

Do you have any interest in agriculture in our area? The Shiawassee County Conservation District is hosting a field day on September 25. They are visiting three area farms to discuss conservation methods used on their farms. The day will end with a tour of the Baker College Ag Tech Center. If you are interested in attending this field day, please stop in and see Ms. Hoffman.

The varsity volleyball team lost to Hemlock last night 25-12, 25-15, 25-21 to lower their record to 9-12-1. Megan Walter led the way with 9 kills and 2 blocks. Logan Trefil had 13 digs and 6 assists and Morgan Martin chipped in with two aces. The JV team took it on the chin in three sets against Hemlock 25-15, 23-25, 13-15, but the freshman were victorious 25-13 25-15.

Any basketball player that wants to work on shooting skills for the upcoming season, come and join the shooting club. The auxiliary gym will be open every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after school until 3:45 P.M.

FFA members that are helping with Project RED or Old Gas Tractor Education Day, those slips needs to be turned into Ms. Hoffman no later than Monday September 22.

The FFA is traveling to Laingsburg next Wednesday for an activity with other FFA chapters from our region. There is no cost. The bus leaves at 5:15 PM and we arrive back at the HS at 8:30 PM. Stop and get a permission slip from Ms. Hoffman. There’s free ice cream involved!

If you are interested in driving your tractor to school on the Friday of Homecoming week, come to Ms. Hoffman’s room to get the proper forms. You do not need to be an FFA member to participate.

If you are a FFA officer, you have until Wednesday to give Ms. Hoffman your $50 deposit for National FFA Convention in Louisville, KY. Thursday September 25th will open up to any FFA member that is interested. Seniors will have priority as this would be there last chance to go.
