January+School+Board+Meeting+Recap

During the election of Ovid-Elsie Board of Education officers, Stacie Rulison was approved as president, Dr. David Huff was approved as vice president, and Jamie Perrien was approved as treasurer.

Principals from both elementary schools presented their students of the month. Randy Barton, principal of Leonard Elementary, had three students from first grade. Jason Tokar, principal of E.E. Knight Elementary, had a student from the fifth grade.

January is Board Appreciation Month. The superintendent, Dr. Ryan Cunningham, gave each board member a gift to show his appreciation.

Within the past month, the school switched from Fifth Third Bank to Isabella Bank due to unexpected fee issues.

During the superintendent’s report, Dr. Cunningham shared his concerns with the board about the loss of students this year.

Perrien gave a report from the Instructional Council. He talked about the growing concern of students using online resources to copy answers for their homework.

The high school’s student council field trip to Traverse City during March was approved by the board.

Craig Coleman and Jeremy Whiting both had their employee contracts approved and signed.

The next meeting will be located at Leonard Elementary on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 7:00 P.M.
