Saw X was directed by Kevin Greutert and released on Sept. 29, 2023. In the movie, we see the return of Tobin Bell as John Kramer who plays the villain in the story once again. Saw X has grossed around $32.2 million in the USA alone. The movie was highly anticipated and many received more than they thought they would get.
Saw X is just like all of the other Saw movies with some of the bloodiest scenes seen in a Saw movie. The movie however doesn’t just have the traditional traps, it has a deep story about John Kramer and why he does what he does. It shows the revenge he wants, which is not different from the others put into these traps he has made. The combination of having a deep story and traps makes the movie better than most people thought. On Rotten Tomatoes Saw X got an audience rating of 90% while an 80% on the Tomatometer. Most of the reviews on the movie are praising the movie while a small portion of the reviews have something to say about the issues the movie has. Those issues are mainly writing decisions that did nothing for the movie in the long run. One review says it frames John Kramer as a hero more than a villain with how it shows his reasoning for doing what he does. That reviewer gave the movie a 4/5 while another reviewer gave the movie a 3.5/5 saying the movie makes everything feel personal which increases the feeling of the movie.
Overall, I would give Saw X a 4/5 with the story being better than I thought when compared to the past films. The story was more in-depth than most and the traps being exactly what I thought really elevated the movie for me. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who wants a taste of horror and drama this Halloween.
