The Hunger Games Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Stanley Tucci, Elizabeth Banks and Woody Harrelson, is a science fiction/action/adventure film directed by Gary Ross, and written by Suzanne Collins, Billy Ray, and Gary Ross. In result of the country of Panem’s uprising, the twelve districts must take two kids, one male, one female, between the ages of twelve and eighteen to fight to the death in a public arena until one is left living. Sixteen year old Katniss Everdeen from district twelve must take care of her little sister Primrose, and her mother after her father died in a coal mining accident. For her, breaking the law means survival. Along with her hunting partner Gale, she heads to the woods surrounding district twelve to hunt. Hunting is illegal in Panem and is punishable by death if they get caught, but if they don’t hunt then they and their families are dead anyways. On the morning of the reaping, after her usual hunting session with Gale, Katniss heads to the hob. The hob is basically a black market, where she trades her game she and Gale killed for some basic things like string and some groceries. She orders a bowl of soup from one of the merchants, Greasy Sae, and sees a golden pin. She picks it up and asks what the bird is on the pin. Greasy Sae says, “It’s a Mockingjay”. Katniss asks how much and Greasy sae gives it to Katniss for free. When Katniss gets home to start preparing for the reaping at the town plaza, she gives the pin to her sister. All the kids between the ages of twelve and eighteen gather in the town plaza in front of the justice hall for the reaping. Effie Trinket, a high mannered lady from the capital, is up on the stage to the justice building and says, “ as usual, ladies first.” Who will be the Tributes for The Hunger Games? Let the seventy fourth Hunger Games begin! I liked the book/film The Hunger Games because it keeps the reader or viewer predicting what will happen next. The movie closely resembled the book, but there are a few errors between the book and film. For example, where the mockingjay pin came from. Where it came from is talked about in the next to books.
