If you were a fan of Five Nights at Freddy’s fan made games around 2015 through 2021 you might have come across a series of three games known as ONAF or popularly known as One Night At Flumptys. Honestly, it’s such a fun, creative take on the genre, even if I wouldn’t call it the absolute best out there. I really loved the hand-drawn, cartoonish art style because it made the jumpscares way more jarring—there’s just something super creepy about being hunted by a giant, cheerful egg and his weird friends. The gameplay felt fresh too, with stuff like the Redman’s computer virus and Grunkfuss creeping through the wall keeping me way more engaged than a standard FNAF clone. Since it’s literally just one night, I liked that it skipped the boring “easy” hours and got straight to the intense stuff.
That said, the game has its limits. My biggest gripe is the lack of replay value; once you hit 6 AM, the mystery is gone and it feels pretty “one and done.” The Beaver’s timing could also be annoying and felt more like bad luck than a lack of skill sometimes, which can be a bit of a letdown when you’re on a good run. Plus, the story in the first game is pretty thin, leaving me wondering why I was even in that nightmare room to begin with.
The sequels definitely step it up and fix a lot of those issues. ONaF 2 gets rid of the doors entirely for a light switch and an exposure meter, which is way more stressful because you can’t just hide behind a wall. ONaF 3 goes even further, adding a camera flash and a furnace to keep you from freezing to death, which adds a whole new layer of survival. It’s also awesome that the whole trilogy is officially on mobile now. The touch controls actually feel really natural for this point-and-click style, making it perfect for a quick scare on the go without needing a PC. Overall, the series is a polished, hilarious parody that gets better as it goes, even if it doesn’t quite take the crown as the #1 fan game of all time so i rate this whole series a solid 9.6/10.
