Boston College hosted MSU at Alumni Stadium, for their red bandanna game, ending in a 23-19 win for the Eagles. The red bandanna game was to honor Welles Crowther, who was a Boston college alumni who sacrificed his life on Sept. 11 2001.
The offense for Boston started off slow when there first drive they had to punt. For the Spartans though this gave them great field position. On this drive the Eagles stopped the Spartans and forced them to kick a field goal, which they drilled right down the middle, to take the lead 3-0. Even though the BC let up a field goal, they responded well. Treshaun Ward and Turbo Richard ran down the field and broke some tackles. But Treshaun Ward fumbled the ball in the red zone which gave MSU the ball back.
Almost right after they turned over the ball BC got the ball back with a stop. This possession the Eagles offense ran right through the Spartans throat, which ended off with an Eagles touchdown by Turbo Richard, making the score 6-3 Eagles. But then the Spartans hit the Eagles right in the mouth, when QB Aidan Chiles threw a 40 yard dime to set the Spartans off in a great position. The Spartans then scored making the score 10-6 Spartans. BC couldn’t convert the first down which they went three and out. MSU now had some momentum and ran down the field for a bit, but then Aidan Chiles threw a terrible pass to the Eagles defense, and gave them the ball back. BC’s Qb took a hard hit on the sack forcing a punt back to MSU, which then MSU marched down the field settling for a field goal to take a 13-6 lead into halftime.
In the second half MSU struggled to find a rhythm, on their return they fumbled the ball and put BC on the 5 yard line. Even though they had great field position the Eagles couldn’t get the touchdown, so they had to settle for a field goal making the score 13-9. Shortly after getting the ball back Aidan Chiles threw another interception, which the Eagles took advantage of it and threw a 36-yard TD to Treshaun Ward making the score 16-13
Chiles was having a terrible game and threw a ball right into the defenders hands, but he got lucky and the defender dropped the ball. So then they had to settle for another field goal 16-16. The rain was pouring hard now in the third quarter and both teams The Eagles finally got momentum and had a crazy play but fumbled in and turned it over giving the ball back. This gave the Spartans the ball on the 1 yard line, and they took the ball into field range and nailed it making the lead 19-16. The Spartans were feeling good with 2:00 minutes remaining, but the Eagles were also feeling great. The Eagles got the ball to midfield, and Thomas Castellanos threw a 42-yard bomb. It gave BC a 23-19 lead with just 1:28 remaining. MSU tried to get into the endzone but Aidan Chiles, like all of the others, threw another pick, which put the icing on top for BC. The game ended 23-19. The Eagles are now 3-1 and feeling good going into their next game against WKU. For the Spartans though they’re not feeling good after this loss, and they’re playing OSU which are 3-0.
