I reviewed the album 27 Anos Nacional by Furacão 2000. This piece was released March 9th, 2000. I chose this album over the others because of one song in particular that led me to it, but I now know that it has a very different vibe to it from the other songs in my opinion. The album is Spanish, and the genre that best describes it would be funk, this album specifically though could be called Rio de Janeiro funk. This album is older than me, but it’s not their oldest album because their oldest was released in 1899. Out of many many songs and albums, the song that brought this album to my attention is their top #1 song, and 3 other songs from 27 Anos Nacional are in the artists top #10, showing it’s a pretty well liked piece.
The history of the production company began after the merger of two sound teams Som 2000, owned by Rômulo Costa and Guarani 2000, owned by Gilberto Guarani. Initially, it held soul and funk dances. This is also a record label, which explains why their history dates so far back and how many songs, albums, and more that there are. They are primarily responsible for the dissemination of Rio funk in the 1990s and the popularization of the genre throughout the country, which is a variation of Miami bass.
This album was definitely not boring to listen to, but I can’t say I fully enjoyed it. I can acknowledge and respect the clear work it took for not only this album, but all of the music that has been created by this artist/record label, but the music itself was personally unenjoyable to listen to. Im not super familiar with spanish music, so maybe apart of this could be because it’s not the usual music I listen to, but there are spanish funk songs I really enjoy so I don’t believe it was fully because of that, especially considering I’ve had one of their songs on repeat for a few weeks, which is what led me to make this review in the first place. For example, “Montagem” was the only song I rated a 0/5 because it was genuinely starting to bother me, but most of the songs I felt the same about. I didn’t fully dislike or hate them because it’s art and they had an interesting sound, but I didn’t find myself enjoying them at all. My favorite song on the album is “Mimosa 2000”, which I love.
I recommend this album to people who enjoy edgier and funk Spanish music, or just in general funk music with some unique sounds. I would rate 27 Anos Nacional by Furacão 2000 a 2.5/5. If it didn’t include a song that I love listening to on a daily basis, I would rate it a 1.5/5. The overall mood was very upbeat and creative, which I do like and respect the album for, and all of the people who worked on it.
