The Ovid-Elsie Marauders traveled to New Lothrop Tuesday night to face off against the Hornets in a MMAC matchup. The Marauders had a 1-7(1-3) record heading into the game while the Hornets were 4-2(1-2) and looking to get back in the win column after losing their last game to a tough conference opponent. In the end the Marauders prevailed 49-37 and are looking to flip the script on their “fluke” start to the season.
This win was highlighted by a 24 point performance by Travis Milner who led all players in scoring on the night. He also had 8 rebounds, 3 assists, and 5 steals to add to the stat sheet while shooting 40% from the field and 100% from the charity stripe. Darling helped out the Marauders having 6 points and 5 rebounds while shooting 75% from the field. 4 other Marauders found themselves in the scoring column however it was the team’s defense that got them the win.
New Lothrop also had impressive scoring, Kohlmann had 20 points on 57% shooting for the Hornets, however he had a 1-9 turnover ratio which caused a lot of problems and gave the Marauders multiple 12 points in transition. 2 other hornets had 5 points in their effort, Birkmeier and Kuchar, however some consistent buckets and excellent defense from the Marauders helped them in the win.
New Lothrop falls to 4-3 on the season and 1-3 in conference and look to end their 2 game conference losing streak by traveling to Lakeville January 9th. On the other hand the Marauders advance to 2-7 and 2-3 in conference play, they look to extend their winning streak and get their first back to back wins on the season against the top team in the conference Birch Run. The game is January 9th and 7 PM in Birch Run, it will be a tough game but very winnable for the Marauders if they play like they know they can.
