The Marauders travelled to Chesaning Tuesday night to face off in a MMAC clash between two teams rising up the conference standings after some disappointing starts. The atmosphere in the gym was top notch as fans from both sides poured in to see what was expected to be a great game. However, a slow start from the Marauders and struggles defensively down the stretch gave OE some trouble. In the end Chesaning prevailed 57-30 after hitting some tough shots and holding the Marauders to their lowest scoring mark on the season.
Even though there wasn’t much to cheer for on the Marauder side, a bright spot of them was sophomore guard Joie Fabus. He had 9 points and 6 rebounds while shooting 100% from the free throw line. Another sophomore Carpenter Darling had a strong start to the night scoring the first 5 points of the game for the Marauders while grabbing 2 offensive rebounds. However it was still a struggle for the Marauders as they finished the night with 22 turnovers.
Chesaning junior Law Danek was the leading scorer for the game having 25 points while shooting 65% from the field, He also had 3 assists and 3 steals on the night. Star player for the Indians Justin Lange scored 16 points on the night, most of them coming off transition having 10 fastbreak points. Chesaning’s defense was the star of the show however, holding the Marauders to shoot just 29% from the field and 13% from the three point arch.
The Marauders went home after the disappointing loss because their chances for a conference title is now slim to none as they fall to 7-9 on the season. Chesaning improves to 12-5 on the season and 9-3 in conference play after starting off 0-3. Chesaning is headed to Mt. Morris Friday night to see if they can extend their in-conference win streak to 10 straight. The Marauders look to bounce back from the tough loss in a home game against New Lothrop. Ovid-Elsie looks to end the season with a bang and carry the momentum into the playoffs to see if they can make a deep run.
