The movie I watched and chose to review is Fight Club. This movie was released in the United States on October 15th, 1999. The running time is 139 minutes, and the budget was around $64 million. After Fight Club was released and produced by Art Linson and Ceán Chaffin, and has a 96% Popcornmeter rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Although known as a classic now, the film was very controversial when first introduced to the public.
Fight Club is based off of a book released in 1996 and written by Chuck Palahniuk. The film was directed by David Fincher, and screenplay was done by Jim Uhls. It stars Brad Pitt, Edward Norton, Helena Bonham Carter, and a few other talented actors and actresses.
The film starts off introducing the main character, “narrator”, who attends therapeutic support groups for issues like cancer due to not being happy with his life. He meets a woman named Marla, who he begins to see around more and develops feelings towards her. After this, on a flight, he meets Tyler Durden, someone who makes and sells soap. These two begin to work together and live together, and start their own underground fight club. As the club grows, crime and chaos starts to break out and things get out of hand. Then, during a conversation between the narrator and Marla, she refers to him as Tyler Durden, revealing that Tyler Durden is actually his alter ego, and the entire time he had been doing everything on his own.
Although I wouldn’t be able to say this was one of my favorite movies, it was a very entertaining film. Fight Club is a very well thought out and amazingly filmed movie, and I would personally rate it a 9/10. It’s not my favorite because I prefer other genres over this one, but I would recommend it to action movie lovers.
