OE Girl Harriers Look to States

With only three meets remaining, the OE girls cross country team is setting their minds on going to states.

The season only has three more meets left, excluding the MHSAA state meet. The team has been aiming to get to states this year, but Junior Emme Koutz is the only member expected to go unless the team places third at the regional meet.

Sophomore Tristin Ziola says,”I don’t expect that the team will go to the state meet this year because although we have been working hard, there aren’t enough of us in lower timed places to go.” Although Ziola doesn’t think the team will go, she says,”I do think Emme will go to the state meet for the third time in a row because she has been working hard and her time drops have shown that she is putting the effort in.”

The teams’ standings in the division are last in the region which shows that the Ovid-Elsie team isn’t expected to go to the state meet. The requirements to go as an individual is to finish in the top 25 runners, which is what the girls will have to do if they expect to go to states not as a team. Koutz is planning on finishing in that top division,.

”I do think I will be able to run well enough to get in the top 25 because I have been training very hard this season, and I am only off from my personal record last season by roughly 15 seconds,” Koutz says.

The Ovid-Elsie cross country team is wrapping up their season in two weeks with hopes to get at least one to the state meet.
