OE Marching Band Takes First Division Honors in Owosso

The Ovid Elsie Marching Band left for the Band Festival at Owosso High School on Friday Mar 8, 2024. The first song of the selection was a quite fast paced song called Project March by Harold Bennett. This march is full to the brim with artistic dynamics and changes of sound from quiet to loud, then quiet again, which the marching band did very well. The second song of the selection was a slow and peaceful piece of music called Beside Still Waters by Larry Neeck. This music was a melody that is slow and steady, and as the marching band played the music rang through the auditorium. The music was quite steady in some parts, and in others it was quiet making their practice show for how much they worked. The third and final song was called Jungle Dance by Brian Balmages, this song is a fast paced musical with mixtures of musical expertise and mounds near the middle and end. So, while the music in some parts seemed to be quite scrambled, even on the score for the music, the marching band did still manage to accept the challenge and excel. Yet, there were some misfortunes when some of the rhythms seemed to mix up the band, so, even though they were a little discombobulated throughout this piece, they still managed to make an excellent end to the piece.

After all the ratings were made they would go to a different area to try and practice cite reading. The site reading portion was between a three and a six, even the adjudicator for their site reading said the music was hard, as for most of the groups that played it so, the band was given roughly five minutes to practice and prepare for their site reading performance, without playing instruments, in order to gain the knowledge of the piece in order to try and play it as best they can. Yet, even with that challenge, our marching band managed to get through it, with some problems here and there, but they still managed to complete the song that every band, including them, had a difficult time getting the piece complete. When the marching band finished, gathering some small helpful criticism from the adjudicator, they went to the area where they would receive their scores. After roughly three minutes of wait, the marching band got their scores from the adjudicators that were at their performance. The scores being a first division and two second divisions. So, after the scores were announced and the marching band got their things, they left, going back to Ovid Elsie High School.
