One woman was killed and three men were wounded in a shooting at Pottawattomie Park in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood on Saturday afternoon. The victims, ranging in age from 18 to 23, were gathered at the park when gunfire erupted around 2 p.m. An 18-year-old woman suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the abdomen, while one man was grazed by a bullet and another was shot in the hip. The fourth victim refused medical treatment but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
Witnesses reported hearing around 12 gunshots and seeing a group of teenagers fleeing the scene immediately after the shooting.Good Samaritans at the park administered CPR to the woman who was shot in the abdomen, but she tragically succumbed to her injuries. The shooting has left residents of the typically peaceful neighborhood shaken and rattled.
While the investigation is ongoing, Chicago Police secured the area and kept the park open to the public as they gathered evidence and interviewed potential witnesses.The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but incidents of this scale are considered uncommon in the Rogers Park area.
