Sulphur, Oklahoma, a town renowned for its diverse shops, dining spots, and historical
significance, suffered severe damage following a destructive EF-3 tornado that swept through its
downtown area, leaving devastation in its wake. Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt, after
examining the aftermath, described it as the most severe destruction witnessed during his
tenure.
Initially classified as an EF-3 by the National Weather Service, further evaluation may upgrade
the tornado’s rating. Regrettably, one fatality occurred, and numerous individuals sustained
injuries, according to Murray County emergency management authorities.
Among the affected businesses was an antique furniture store owned by Larry, Allison, and Vicki
Combs, which was completely demolished. Despite the adversity, locals like Hali Ruth,
proprietor of The Table Eatery, expressed their determination to rebuild and resume operations.
Christy Morris, who owns The Mix Mercantile, recounted sheltering at home during the tornado
and observing the devastation via security cameras. The morning after revealed extensive
damage to her store, with doors, windows, walls, and inventory either destroyed or missing, as
depicted in photographs shared with FOX Weather.
